Old Fashioned Remedies for a Good Night’s Sleep

Published by jober at 10:41 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Sleep is so very important to health but a good night’s snooze can be hard to come by sometimes.

Recommendations for a good night’s sleep can range from sleeping medications over the counter or prescription to keeping regular bedtime hours but for some, these are not always practical.  Old timers had their own remedies for a sleepless night and there may have been a measure of value to their ideas.

A glass of warm milk about 30 minutes before bedtime was said to induce sleep.  We do know that tryptophan is an amino acid that triggers biological and biochemical reactions that bring on that natural sleepy feeling.  Warm milk, as well as turkey, is a good source of tryptophan.

Folk healers have said for centuries that a foot bath helps induce sleep.  They recommend you soak your feet in warm water 30 minutes before bed.

Some say that dark colors and soothing music in the bedroom help you to relax and feel sleepy.

These are all simple and safe things to try when you occasionally feel like you won’t be able to get to sleep.
