A Hypoallergenic Dog for the Obamas

Published by jober at 10:06 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

It seems the Obamas are doing their homework when it comes to choosing the right dog for their family.  I heard that they’ve narrowed the search down to either a Labradoodle or a Portugese Water Dog.  Both of these should be good with kids and hardy enough to take rigorous play with the kids.

Another important consideration was finding a dog that would not aggravate the allergies of one of the girls.  Actually no dog is completely non allergenic because it’s the protein in dog saliva and skin dander that causes reactions, but the breeds they are considering are considered hypoallergenic.

Other measures that allergic dog owners can take are:

  • Wipe down the dog daily with a damp cloth.
  • Bathe the dog as often as the vet will approve.
  • Change clothes, face, arms, and hands after handling the dog.
  • Use a plastic mattress cover and wash bedding often.
  • Clean heating and a/c vents regularly.
  • Use HEPA air purifiers.
